Doggie Do?

On tonight’s council agenda I noticed that there is discussion about a dog park. In a time where our council is voting to increase your tax rate, freeze jobs and tighten each departments belt, some of the tax and spenders on the council want the citizens to pay 377,814.58 (just the estimate, we know how accurate estimates are remember BLD ) for a dog park. That estimate does not include M & O (maintenance and operations) funding for the up keep of the park. Is that a good fiscally conservative way to spend our increased city taxes? Now is not the time for such a pork barrel project. If you campaigned on being fiscally conservative with our tax dollars (as every council member has including Mr. Cones and Mr. Baron) then how can such a project even be considered ?

Chris - great thread on an important issue. No, not the dog park, the economy. This agenda item will reveal the true conservatives on city council.

Neil is proving again the well known fact that there's no honor among thieves--he thinks this is the best time to get his pet project dogpark voted in, while a debt is fresh on Tommy's mind for Neil's vote on the city attorney issue.
Neil is showing flawed judgment--first the nod to keep Gregg, because he "didn't like the way it was done," and now to push a dogpark that he knows is pork barrel and could serve only a few. "Remember, we are supposed to be looking out for the best interests of ALL the citizens," he once said. Remember that, Neil?

How about this, Neil? It makes just as much sense.
"Smokers Park. Dedicated to former council buffoons Phyllis Sanborn and Jim Nelson."
If I can count on your vote for it, Neil, I'll work my charm with the mayor and we'll put your name up there too.

I don't want my tax dollars spent on real estate for animals and maintenance to pick up their poop. These over-the-top dog freaks need to make their play dates for their own damn back yards.

League City is behaving more and more like the Peoples Republic of Boulder, Co. every day. Next thing you know, someone will propose that we truck in goats to manicure the esplanades to reduce the City's carbon footprint. (Yes, they actually do that in Boulder, CO.)

How much would the goats cost, Morgan? :?

At least Phyllis voted the right way. I loggedin just as JN was making his motion. My puter froze up when JN spoke so I missed hearing him miimic TC. At least I heard sound fiscal wisdom from MB and TP. Thanks guys.

For NB, shame on you. Last I checked GCAD and Google Earth, there's enough lan don your spread for your dogs to play in. We just spent about 1.7M to clean up an unexpected mess. You and your fellow cohorts are willing to spend 1% of what could have been used to clean up some of our other parks on your personal pork.

Perhaps you should sue yourself for malpractice (failure to act in best interest of the city). If you wanted a dog park so bad, you should have moved to Houston. They have some good ones there.
