A League City resident stated in a guest column in today’s daily news that He is always “amused how history seems to repeat itself” in our town. I find it very telling that this is the same person that helps the residential development in our town explode, leading to our traffic problems and straining our infrastructure. Our city is in the mess it is in due, in part, to his work in making sure his residential developers received every break they could get at the League City taxpayers’ expense. (Invented a few breaks on the way) Where was this concerned resident when the home builders (who have supported most of his campaigns) had a free hand in the development as well as incentives that is a major contributing factor in the creation of these problems? He tirelessly opposed the increase in the parks dedication fee for his residential developer friends. (it passed over his objections) Where was his concern for the infrastructure then? He speaks of Big League Dreams having no sign on the freeway. (Most of us understand what happened there.) He claims that the city dropped the ball by not continuing to spend more on that complex. He states that “we have thrown the Butler Longhorn Museum to the curb”. It may be a simple slip of his memory that fails to mention the 3 million dollars in taxpayers’ money that has gone into the development of this project. A project that was supposed to open when Houston hosted the super bowl in 2004.One cannot help but to ask one’s self. How come he didn’t get this taken care of when his Mayor friend Jerry Shults was in office? Or were there other important things that needed to be done? Could it be that all other administrations have turned a “deaf” ear to this proposal because it is not in the best interest of our city or the citizens?
So what is his plan? Well now he wishes the League City taxpayer to offer “business incentives equal to what we do in residential home development.” (sounds like history repeating itself to me) He claims that such a taxpayer giveaway to business developers “might balance out this tax rate”. “Might” Now this is the same person who, in 2005 led the pack of candidates in accepting campiagn contributions from the Houston Builders Association according to a Daily news story.
I am sure that this is just a coincidence but we should take into consideration that it is time to start signing up for the city election.
Why are League City lawns the greenest in the area? Because every year after winter we start the election process in our town and there are always a few who are VERY good at spreading the fertilizer.

While Mr. Hallisey's article goes off in multiple directions, we all must give him credit for his on-target (i.e. correct) concluding statements: "The city must get the highways, drainage and sewer plants done ... I believe the foundation of League City’s future is tied to getting this infrastructure back up to an acceptable level, so we can grow and dream of making this community all it can be." That written, League City shouldn't be giving commercial developers incentives like we've been giving residential developers. I grab my wallet and hold it tightly any time I hear about developer freebies -- I mean incentives. In fact, we need to assess infrastructure impact fees on all new residential development because the current hodgepodge falls short. All development incentives are guilty until proven innocent.
It was interesting to see LClvr on the other blog state that we need more business to bring more people in to maintain property values. Some folks still don't get that it's their fault we have all these problems in the first place and after two different Mayors who exacerbated the situation, we now have one who is cleaning house with a focus on the future, and yet that's not good enough because the current admin can't fix THEIR problems fast enough.

I'd hate to confuse Mr. Hallisey with any facts, but here is one that he should be aware of. Insurers for businesses are informing their insurees that if they are located in a Tier 1 county or in a "redline area" such as southeast Harris County, to GET OUT. Insurance costs are going through the roof and the cost of doing business here will be prohibitive for many business.

At 7:20 yesterday, Mr Edleman asks who will step up in the run for council. Less then 30 minutes later, Mr. Holloway (who has been silent for quite sometime) responds that he is entering the race.
Given that Mr. Holloway has, in the past, been a very vocal opponent of current Mayor and much of Council, his prolonged silence, and the timing between Mr E's question and Mr H's response, one might be led to believe this a part of an organized plot to usher in a new TC.

Conspiracy theory laughs aside, I sincerely hope that Mr. Holloway is operating independently of the usual suspects, and that he can be professional enough to lay aside past gripes (never fully expositoried) and show himself as a viable candidate who will bring synergy to the table as opposed to being an anti-Toni.

I am running as an independent. I have no sides. I am just going to use my common sense and be positive through it all. Along with that have fun with everyone in the process.
Thank you all very raising these very important questions about my positions on some issues and background in the community.
First and foremost, I am running as an independent fiscal conservative. I believe that when someone runs for City Council they should not have a personal agenda for their tenure on the job. The motivation for doing this should be purely for serving the community. I do not represent any one portion of our politically fragmented community. I want to represent and serve our entire town. I want to act on behalf of the average homeowners who just want fairness and value in return for their hard earned tax dollars. I have manners, common sense and problem solving acumen. I have a lot of energy and ideas to contribute to the community. I value the ability of this town to serve the needs of families with young children as well as the needs of our older and senior residents. My family is very important to me and the ability for others to raise their children safely in our community is of high importance to me as well. Raising our children in a safe community is important establishing well adjusted adults who love their town. I love to see people laugh and love to live life with lots of humor and happiness.
I was raised in the Clear Lake area and I have been an active leader in my church. I remember when what is now South Shore Harbor Hotel was a wooded area along the quiet south side of Clear Lake. League City experienced rapid growth that has caused the aging infrastructure to become stretched thin. Out utility systems are in need of expensive upgrades and renewal. Infrastructure issues are one of the biggest challenges that we face in our community. League City is already strapped with debt from infrastructure upgrades of the past; the realities of the current economy are that the expansion of the tax base is unlikely. This makes it extremely difficult, in good conscience, to issue more debt to expand and repair our existing infrastructure systems. We will need to find good solutions to these problems without increasing our bonded indebtedness, and spend with our means, until such time as our revenues are enhanced from an expanding tax base.
Many campaigns always seem to discuss the need for traffic relief, yet real solutions are slow to be implemented. While great strides by council have been made to improve our community, we should be able to accomplish more. We can do more if our leaders have a vision and act to make that vision a reality.
We need to focus on public safety and maintaining law and order in our City. Our emphasis needs to be to keep League City a safe community. I promise that if elected I will make sure we do the right thing for all of the citizens of League City; I will not represent small groups or special interests. I am a regular citizen who wants contribute to the overall well being of our community. If I can have your support, you have my word to do just that.

Marc, perhaps you missed that all important statement. I was having a moment of brevity. Sometimes it's important to find things to laugh about or with. Especially given the past ugly nature of LC politics.
Why should my name matter if I speak truth or clearly indicate when I am joking? If you feel I've said something that amounts to slander, then do what should be done. Otherwise, your remarks are nothing but obfuscation from the details.
Tim, sounds good. But Obama sounded good too. Devil is in details. Have any details you'd like to share? Conceptual ideas needing further evaluation as opposed to "this is the solution" type statements are great. (p.s. I prefer the previous as no one has all the answers)

I actually read in "Family Handyman" that chicken poop is great for lawns. I don't know what can be more chicken than folks who make behind-closed-door deals to benefit friends, as well as those who simply close up shop in the middle of the night rather than acknowledge wrong doings and misdeeds of those they are acquainted with.
And before you even start obfuscating with that "what's your name line", let me remind you that I had tried contacting you in the past (when I felt you offered greater neutrality), and that my name is out there if you really wanted to make an effort to find out. If you don't want to make the effort then why should I make it easier to have my family harrassed because someone with a penchant for playing dirty decides I speak too much truth. (I don't believe you would do this, but there are others who might - after all this is League City)

I was not a supporter of the Butler museum. But we started it. So lets finish it. If a neighborhood has been wrong like glen cove. Lets find a solution and move on. Its been disruptive long enough to the entire City. Lets fix it and move on. We need to get all the project lingering and get em done and move on. I will be the type that listens to it all. Not just my opinion but everyone's insight and make a decision with common sense. And what the best for the city. In other words I will Keep an open mind for what is best for the City Not whats best for Tim Holloway or a special interest group.

The point of that is. We have been a divided City way too long. We need to put the past behind us and work together as one great City that we are. I want to be that person that bridges the divided. In order to gather supporters for your campaign, you will need to be more specific to the issues than the feel good lines like those in Back to the Future: "Progress is his middle name. Mayor Goldie Wilson's progress platform means more jobs, better education, bigger civic improvements, and lower taxes." Many of us have been around the block a few times.

Less than a week left until the primary, and too little homework is getting done. On the R party ballot Tuesday, five propositions get laid out. See the current Evil Point Press for details. I give 'em a No-Yes-Yes-Yes-No.
There is a small handful of good new candidates running for some of the county office positions too, and both party and candidates are not doing much to get the word out.
If we need solid fiscal conservatives now more than ever, I like Guisti, Clark, Longcoy and of course Ron Paul.
Keep in mind that every commissioner except Ken Clark deprived you of your right to vote on your county money being spent on UTMB, which is a state facility. And watch out for the candidate who looks like he comes armed with some real BIG time money to unseat Dr. Paul.
Then in another couple of months, the city vote. Besides two council positions, do you folks know that there will be 23 propositions on the May ballot, all related to changing the city charter? If that doesn't get boiled down and made simple enough, voters are going to be overwhelmed, and all the work gone into it a waste, at best, if not a backfire, disaster and melt-down.
