New Year’s Resolutions

OK the holiday season is coming to a close and this will be the last “fluff” thread for a little while. I will get back to issues after this one. Anyone wish to make a resolution? Mine is, as it has been for a few years, to remove those elected officials in our city who serve special interest groups and not the city or its citizens. To help move our city forward and to place League City first. It is time that League City has a least two if not three members (like Galveston has) elected from our city to serve on commissioners court. (Redistricting is in 2010) Now I mean a SIGNIFICANT voice, not just a gerrymandered small portion on the extreme west end of the city. We are the largest city in Galveston County and we deserve and should DEMAND such representation on how our tax dollar is spent!

(Ok maybe not such a fluff thread)

You are correct Mr. Mallios. No more fluff. Let's get down to business.

Chris,

This year’s resolution is simple. It is more like a proclamation.

No longer will I accept elected city official masquerading as public servants while working for the benefit of special interest groups and developers.

I will not be silent about council persons taking 95% of campaign contributions from special interests, Home Builders PAC, city contractors, and developer friends.

My new years resolution is NOT to be silent.

Also I want to drop 25 lbs

Paul,

I agree with your Proclamation and would like to pass along an email I received over the Christmas holidays. It is more specific.

I will also work to expose and inform the voters of LC of public servants masquerading as public servants that:

have accepted $5000.00 from a developer who "purchased" the Glen Cove bridge

have accepted $$$thousands of dollars from local, out of town developers, Houston Homebuilders Pac, etc. etc.

accepted an invitation to travel abroad paid for by a developer

spent over $5000.00 of taxpayers dollars travelling to Colorado (and ski); tour Washington, D.C.; and watch a NASA space launch in Florida

demanded and voted in favor of spending $5000.00 for soda

voted for the Ameriwaste trash contract

was investigated by the DA and Grand jury regarding the Ameriwaste trash contract

supported and voted in favor of frivious big ticket city spending:$22 million dollars for Big League Dreams; $$1.7 million dollars for the Butler Long Horn Museum; $300,000 for a League City Dog Park

has pledged for 5 years to "solve traffic congestion" but has voted for numerous housing developments/ creating the current traffic congestion

supported and endorsed Conservative/Republican candidates, Jerry Shults and Tad Nelson, but now is a Democrat

is a bully

New Years Resolution, "Out with the old and in with the new."

I also promised my wife to take the trash out !

Wise One,

I too have watched 2 Tones for a long time and as we say in pirate lingo, "Its time to walk the plank."

While your list is just the beginning, Tommy is in for a rude awakening with Shults & Hallisey gone. He, like Hallisey, are politicians trying to change parties like shirts to ingratiate themselves to whoever is in power is their moto.

The Good news is that the last 2 elections have opened many of the 5000 voters eyes to their antics & the old guard.

I, along with the pirate brothers, will stick to the code and vow to expose pompous politicians for what they are. Those that try to do what is best for the community will ALWAYS get the pirate brothers vote.

No Cones, No Samuelson, No Sanborn. They continue to block progress and their vote for the incompetent Chris Reed will haunt them to their own demise.....

Bring on the May elections with a new council, new administrator and a sense of city government that supports & listens to the citizens of League City....

Captain Blye, I couldn't agree with you more!

And, Wise One, your list is good, though very incomplete, I'm sure! As we move forward toward the election, there will be more additions to the list, I think.

One thing I am sure of is that two of those candidates you mention have ALMOST NEVER ATTENDED a Council workshop, because there are no attendance requirements for workshops as there are for Council meetings, which is of course another flaw with our Charter.

Captainblye,

Aye aye captain. 2 Tones will be gone in May, as Shults and Nelson were booted out last year.

2 Tones was part of the team that made developer's dreams come true. More houses, more contributions, more houses, more contributions and the cycle continued.

2 Tones (aka Conehead) suffers from the same ailment that Shults and Tad were afflicted with. Arrogance. Thank goodness, the voters will administer the remedy .

As far as 2 Tones political party affiliation, Republican (endorsing Shults and Nelson) or bending over backwards to help his democrat crony with his dog park, won't make a difference. Voters have had their full of 2 Tones poor voting record, hateful comments toward the Mayor, and lack of decorum at council meetings.

Joanna,
trash-gate, bridge-gate, chief-gate, Amegy-gate, traffic, developers, developer's contributions, paid trips, Grand Jury investigation, Glen Cove, Victory lakes, Big league Dreams, Dog park, budget increases, water-rate increases, etc.

We are just begiining. The best is always saved for the last.

I hope veryone realizes the past actions of Toomy Cones and what impact it has had on our everyday lives.
He can vote against a water rate increase and the tax increase on election year but he is the reason we are in the position that we find ourselves. All the new subdivisions that he approved (with MUDS,TIRZS,PIDS) made it easier for these developers to build with the City taken a lot of risk. It encouraged them to expand too fast. He always said it would not have an impact, but here we are. Schools are over crowded, traffic is the worst, we had to build sewer plants 10 years in advance. Tommy Cones has been a "cancer" to this City. Putting and taking developer money before thinking of the existing residents. He also stuck us with a hefty price tag at Big League Dreams (carried the torch) and the Butler Musuem. Who runs the Butler Musuem now? All of his buddies. Not caring that there are needs for the other 70,000 plus citizens.

CJM that's pretty good.

How about "Kick the dogs out of council" or "Send the council's dogs to the park"
